LAHORE:
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan said on Thursday
that the board will file an appeal to the anti-corruption unit of
International Cricket Council (ICC), but only for Muhammad Aamir, Samaa
reported.
“We are in the process of filing an appeal requesting the ICC to allow him feature Aamir in domestic cricket. It’s not for Salman Butt and Muhammad Asif,” Khan spoke to reporters in Lahore.
He said the way for seamer Aamir to play domestic matches before end to his five-year ban is now clear.
“His return will take some time. He could be a beneficiary of ICC’s new amendments in anti-corruption laws, but Salman Butt and Asif will not be among the beneficiaries for now,” the PCB chief said.
Butt, who is Pakistan’s former captain, was handed a 10-year ban with five years suspended and Asif seven with two years suspended for their involvement in 2010 Lord's Test against England.
On Tuesday, Butt hoped that the PCB will help him get an early end to his ban. – Samaa
